Ribbon Cutting Set for New Meadow River Rail Trail Section in Rainelle

May 29, 2026

The Greenbrier County Commission is excited to announce the opening of Phase III of the Meadow River Rail Trail in Rainelle, West Virginia.

The public is invited to attend a ribbon cutting event that will take place on June 12, 2026 starting at 10 A.M. at the new Rainelle Trailhead located on Snake Island Road in Rainelle, WV. Due to limited space at the trailhead, everyone is asked to park at Rainelle Town Hall or the municipal gravel parking lot across from Fruits of Labor. MTA will be shuttling attendees to and from the trailhead. The buses will start running at 9 A.M.

This section of the trail connects the Town of Rainelle with the scenic views that can be found along the Meadow River Rail Trail.  With approximately 20 miles of trail open and plans to expand all the way to the Gauley River, the Meadow River Rail Trail is connecting world class outdoor recreational opportunities with communities in Fayette and Greenbrier County.

According to Greenbrier County Commissioner Richie Holliday, “Opening of the Rainelle section of the Meadow River Rail Trail will not only provide a recreation facility for our residents, but it will also increase economic development opportunities for the region. We are looking forward to working with the communities in Greenbrier County to leverage the potential of the trail.”

The next phase of the Meadow River Rail Trail is the connection from the trailhead in Nallen to the Gauley River. According to the Meadow River Rail Trail Project Coordinator and GVEDC Board of Directors President, Matt Ford, funding has been approved to design and construct the next phase to the Gauley River. This section will help the overall project by making the connection with the Gauley River National Recreation Area.
