Maxwelton, WV – On Wednesday, January 12, Governor Patrick Morrisey announced $2.1 million in state grants to develop business-ready sites across West Virginia. The funds are from the WV Ready Sites Program and can be used for site engineering and planning, including required studies that must be completed before construction can begin.
The Greenbrier Valley Economic Development Corporation (GVEDC) received two of the 28 grants announced, totaling $150,000. The grants, $75,000 each, will support site development efforts on GVEDC owned property in Maxwelton on the Airport Industrial Park Road, Greenbrier County, and at its Fountain Springs Industrial Park in Peterstown, Monroe County. As part of the WV Ready Site Program, GVEDC has been working with property owners across the region, as well as local utility providers to identify development opportunities, assess infrastructure capabilities, and complete due diligence for the properties.

Ruthana Beezley, Executive Director of GVEDC said the funding will help advance plans to address identified gaps and prepare the sites to be shovel-ready for manufacturing or industrial development.
“These funds move us another step closer to delivering a business-ready site,” Beezley said. “Preparing rural properties for development takes strong partnerships, careful planning, and shared commitment. Through collaboration, we are building sites that can compete for investment opportunities.”
The Site Readiness teams for these specific sites include GVEDC, WV Division of Economic Development, City of Lewisburg, Greenbrier PSD #1, Mountaineer Gas Company, First Energy, Appalachian Power, Frontier, and Red Sulphur PSD. In this round of WV Site Ready Funding, GVEDC secured two awards from four submitted sites, bringing the total awards under this state program to three.
Additional grants for 19 counties were announced, including awards to neighboring economic development organizations like the Bluefield Economic Development Authority, and the New River Gorge Regional Development Authority.
The Greenbrier Valley EDC is the local economic development authority for Pocahontas, Greenbrier and Monroe Counties whose mission is to strategically facilitate economic growth and higher wages through collaborative partnerships, while preserving the natural beauty and quality of life in the Greenbrier Valley region.
