Connecting Classrooms to Careers: How Partnerships Shape the Future Workforce

December 1, 2025

Preparing students for the future requires more than classroom learning—it takes meaningful connections between schools, businesses, and communities. Across West Virginia, school-business partnerships are proving to be powerful tools for student success, giving young people the real-world skills and experiences they need to thrive in a changing workforce.

These partnerships allow students to see the relevance of what they’re learning by connecting academic concepts to practical, hands-on applications. When students have opportunities to explore career paths, shadow professionals, or engage in workplace projects, they gain a clearer sense of purpose and direction. This not only boosts engagement and motivation but also builds confidence and employability skills that last well beyond graduation.

For local businesses, the benefits are equally strong. By working directly with schools, companies help shape the future workforce—cultivating a pipeline of skilled, well-prepared employees who understand the demands and expectations of their industries. It’s a win-win relationship that strengthens both education and the economy.

At the heart of these efforts is The Education Alliance, a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to mobilizing business and community partnerships that equip West Virginia’s K–12 students for success. The Alliance connects schools and employers to create opportunities for job shadowing, internships, mentorship, and innovative learning experiences that bridge the gap between classroom learning and career readiness.

In Greenbrier County, this important work is being led by Lynne Roth Bostic, the county’s Education Alliance partnership coordinator. A Frankford resident who grew up in Renick, Lynne brings a wealth of experience from both education and hospitality to her role. She is passionate about connecting students with local employers and helping the community see how investing in education strengthens everyone’s future.

Local businesses and community leaders are encouraged to get involved. Opportunities include hosting job-shadowing experiences, offering internships, participating in “lunch and learn” sessions, or serving as mentors to students exploring career options.
